"Do you have any plus size modest wedding gowns?" "And any with sleeves"?, Many brides call us, wondering if we have anything they can try and see what the dress actually look like on. First of all, what's the definition of "Plus Size" wedding dresses? The answer varies and depends on whether it's a bride asking, or what the bridal industry thinks. For most brides who call our store they want to know if we have any modest wedding dresses size 18 or over they can see and come try on. For many bridal shops in our industry, sizes 12 and up are considered Plus Size!
Wow! We've had so many gorgeous brides looking for modest wedding dresses with sleeves who've found their dream wedding dress in sizes 12 and up. I don't think they would consider themselves plus size at all. And we don't want to categorize anyone. But since we do get those questions, here is an explanation.

We've seen some bridal boutiques where the biggest sample dress is size 8. Hard to imagine what that dress might look like on a plus size bride, especially with sleeves involved.
That's what's so amazing about our modest bridal customers - it doesn't matter what size they are, each bride arrives at our store with mothers, sisters and bridesmaids looking forward to the perfect bridal shopping experience. And we are so happy to do everything we can to enable them to have a wonderful time finding that elegant dress that is perfect for them! So, we have samples up to size 24, and have special ordered up to size 30 when needed (if engagement time allows).

Each Spring and Fall our modest wedding dress designers show us their new collections of gowns, and we must decide which styles, and how many sizes of each we should bring into A Closet Full of Dresses. We used to think "This style would appeal more to size 2 brides, and this other style might be more what a size 22 bride would like".
But over the seasons we've discovered that a fitted design will appeal to a plus size bride as much as it will to a size 2 or 4 size girl. Some "curvy" brides may want to celebrate those curves! So we try to have samples of several sizes per each dress style.
For brides who feel they might be over size 24, we happily refer them to Strut Bridal who specialize in only Plus Size brides. They are so awesome over at Strut, and the brides we send to Strut really love their experience.
